How to Open Your Crown Chakra
Chakras are seven wheels of energy that begin at the top of your head and run all the way down to the base of your spine. If any of the chakras become blocked, you’ll experience a negative impact on your well-being. When they’re spinning easily, you’ll notice a positive one.
In this post, we’re going to look at the crown chakra, the seventh chakra, which, as you probably guessed, is located at the top of your head. Here’s everything you need to know about this chakra.
What is the Crown Chakra?
The Sanskrit name for the crown chakra is Sahasrara which means ‘thousand-petaled’. Imagine a thousand-petaled lotus flower, and you’ll have a good sense of the power and beauty of a healthy crown chakra.
The crown chakra is the receiver and home to the energies we create through prayer, meditation, and kind thoughts and actions.
The crown chakra is the energy centre that controls our connection to spirit and universal consciousness, wisdom and unity. It’s like the ultimate spiritual wifi.
Crown Chakra Colours
The colours white and violet are most commonly associated with the crown chakra. Violet, the colour of spirituality, is also a seventh chakra colour.
Some people visualise the crown chakra as a flame combining both colours. Still, everyone has a personal preference, and yours is equally valid.
Crown Chakra Gemstones
White and violet gemstones are associated with the Crown Chakra. Most commonly, white will be Clear Quartz or Selenite. Alternatively, violet or a purple stone such as Amethyst is a popular crown chakra gemstone reflecting the violet flame.
Signs your Crown Chakra is Blocked
Signs that your crown chakra is blocked can manifest physically and mentally. However, as the chakra that connects us to the cosmos and spirituality, you may notice a more significant impact on your emotional and mental well-being.
Suppose you feel stuck in your thinking and are unable (or unwilling) to hear alternative ideas, thoughts or knowledge. In that case, your crown chakra probably needs some clearing up.
This chakra influences the central nervous system, the muscular system and skin, so any skin issues could signify that your crown chakra needs some attention.
Like any wheel, the crown chakra can spin too fast or not fast enough. Either way, if it isn’t working as it should, these are the signs to look out for:
● Reduced or low physical function
● Lack of coordination
● Insomnia or over-sleeping
● Skin issues
● Feeling disconnected
● Feeling overwhelmed
● Spiritual crisis (disconnecting from the spirit or going overboard)
● Unable to set or maintain goals
● Unable to connect emotionally with others
● Fixating on the past or future, but not the present
When your crown chakra is in overdrive, you might find yourself in overdrive. Too much energy is flowing in. Those with an overactive crown chakra can display self-destructive tendencies. Moving away from their sense of spirituality and becoming more cynical, materialistic, and disconnected in nature.
An underactive crown chakra can manifest the opposite way because not enough energy is getting through. You may struggle to get up in the morning, feel a sense of confusion and find it hard to get inspiration for even the most mundane tasks. You may feel lonely because you can’t feel a connection with others.
In both cases, if your crown chakra is out of alignment, you might experience more headaches, general tension and downright exhaustion.
Perhaps you know someone who has difficulty seeing the bigger picture. They may blame everyone but themselves for their circumstances. Maybe they are narrow-minded - you probably know someone with a blocked crown chakra.
Signs Your Crown Chakra is Aligned
When the crown chakra is aligned correctly and open, you’ll experience joy in the little day-to-day things.
You’ll experience a sense of peace, enjoy restful sleep, feel motivated and understand your self-worth. An aligned crown chakra is associated with feeling grateful and alive.
When you remove blockages from your crown chakra, you can feel it. Your habits and attitudes align so that you’re no longer ruled by your ego, and you have a sense of bliss and being ‘at one’ with spirit because your clear crown chakra has an open connection.
As this chakra provides your connection to the universe, when it’s healthy and open, you may find yourself having prophetic or incredible dreams that are uplifting and significant.
How to Unblock Your Crown Chakra
If you think your crown chakra needs a little TLC or maintenance, there are several simple things you can try.Meditation
Meditation is an easy and free way to improve mental health and unblock chakras. To align and open your crown chakra with meditation, visualise a white or violet light pouring into your crown chakra, washing away blockages like a power shower.
As you do this, you can also imagine a thousand-petal lotus flower opening up as the light floods your crown chakra.
Having a regular crown chakra power shower is an excellent way of keeping this chakra wheel free of blockages and spinning healthily.Affirmations
A great way of powering up your crown chakra meditation is to include affirmations as you visualise the healing light entering your crown chakra. Here are some ideas you can use:
● I am at peace
● I love and accept myself
● I trust my intuition
● I let go, and I trust
● I am protected and loved
● I am love
● I am connected to infinite wisdom
Balanced chakras vibrate at a higher frequency, and affirmation statements help to raise your frequency so your crown chakra can match it, grow and open.
You can say the affirmations out loud or in your head, but if you add feeling and intention behind them, you’ll find the power behind the words becomes stronger.
Adapt these affirmations to suit you or create your own by focussing on connection, wisdom and peace.Gemstones and Jewellery
Earlier, we looked at the gemstones associated with the crown chakra. You can work with those gemstones to unblock and align your crown chakra.
One way to use crystals and gemstones is to wear earrings, necklaces and bracelets. As long as you intend them to work with your crown chakra, they will help with its alignment and unblocking.
You can also take gemstones as they are and hold them or place them where you’ll see them often for the same effect.
Aside from Clear Quartz and Amethyst, you can also try Sugilite, a lavender crystal that is helpful with grounding and guarding against negativity. Selenite works with the crown chakra as well as the third eye and can help you get out of the state of apathy that a blocked crown chakra can cause.Diet
Eating natural, whole foods like organic vegetables and grains will help to maintain all of your chakras. But if you’re working on your crown chakra, you can make some additions to your diet.
Choose foods that have the crown chakra colour like red grapes, aubergine, purple broccoli, plums, and purple cabbage to keep this chakra running smoothly.
You can also try removing foods that make you feel sluggish and lethargic, as that can help you keep your crown chakra clear.Have a clear-out
As a blocked chakra can affect you physically and emotionally, having a clear-out can help keep this chakra balanced and aligned.
Physical clear-out: We’re not talking monk-like minimalism but clearing out the clutter can have a dramatic effect on your well-being and your crown chakra.
This is especially true of items that hold negative memories for you. By getting rid of items that don’t make you feel good, you leave more space physically and emotionally for the things that inspire and uplift you. And in turn, you help your crown chakra to heal.
Mental clear-out: A blocked chakra leads to limiting perspectives, so a mental clear-out can kickstart crown chakra healing.
Go on a news diet to break the relentless deluge of negative and worrying information you receive. In its place, listen to podcasts, read books, or watch videos on self-growth topics that expand your mind, which will expand and heal the crown chakra.
Life is a journey of learning and expansion, so if you’re in a rut of negativity and feel stuck, break out of limited thinking and seek out new voices and perspectives.
The crown chakra is our connection to something bigger than ourselves. Modern life is busy and always on the go, whether running a home, raising children, working or caring for loved ones. Or all of these at once.
When you add in a constant stream of emails, phone calls and 24-hour access to world news, it’s all too easy to dim that white/violet light.
Every morning, a simple gratitude practice is one of the easiest ways to notice the small things and reconnect with the world, fellow humans, and the universe. And so the crown chakra will open and work freely.
